TITLE:            Training Instructor
SALARY:           $28.96 per hour w/benefits (Exempt)
LOCATION:     Human Resources Division - Fort Defiance, Arizona
OPENING DATE: February 19, 2010

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Lineman Certification from the USDOL and/or State Apprenticeship Services or equivalent combination of education and experience that is directly related to the foregoing specific requirements
  • 8 years of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems
  • 3 years of high level training experience and knowledge in approved practices, procedures, tools, and materials used in training of electrical line construction and maintenance work
  • Extensive knowledge in the principle of electrical theory as applied to electrical circuits and wiring systems
  • Experience and Knowledge of State Commercial Drivers License requirement
  •  Requires a Valid Driver’s License  (subject to motor vehicle review)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

  • Conduct classroom training for apprentices using written modules, audio/ visuals, one-on-one coaching and dialogue.
  • Conduct field instruction and demonstrations and monitors apprentices as they practice the skills and begin to apply to their work.
  • Instruct others through explanation, demonstration and supervised practice and make recommendations based on technical expertise.
  • Prepare materials and facilities for class and field instruction.
  • Maintain grounds and equipment for safe and continuous use.
  • Update and upgrade training materials as new methods, materials and equipment are introduced into the work environment.
  • Conduct written and physical evaluations for journeymen promotion eligibility, and to return to work requirements.
  • Evaluate job applicants through a series of field and written test for use in hiring decisions.
  • Conduct annual pole-top and bucket rescue training for all linemen per safety requirements.
  • Monitor crew changes and apprentice rotation to assure variety of experiences for apprentice learning on the job.
  • Follows and teaches established safety procedures and use of required protective devices and equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
