1959
The Navajo Tribal Utility Authority is created as a department of the Resources Division of the Navajo Tribe by resolution of the Tribal Council on January 22.
1961
Water and wastewater operations begin with 100 customers using 12 million gallons of water per year.
NTUA office was established in Shiprock with 15 employees: the City of Farmington offered assistance in setting up the operations.
1962
NTUA establishes branch offices in Chinle and Tuba City.
Phillip W. (Vance) Vanderhoff, a non-Navajo, is named NTUA’s first General Manager.
1963
Frank W. Bradley, a Navajo from Tuba City, is elected Chairman of the Management Board.
  Edward McCabe Jr., a Navajo, is selected as NTUA’s second General Manager, succeeding Vanderhoof.
1964
C. Mac Eddy, a non-Navajo, is selected as NTUA’s third General Manager, succedding McCabe.
1965
Navajo Tribal Council gives preliminary approval in April to the NTUA Plan of Operation.
1966
NTUA’s Management Board is organized in March.
1969
Dr. Annie D. Wauneka, a Navajo from Klagetoh, is the first woman named to the NTUA Management Board.
