Save Money Conserve Energy
Looking to conserve energy while sheltering at home? Here’s some tips to reduce electricity use: Turn off all appliances, including televisions, widescreen TVs and radios when they’re not in use. If you have appliances you use only rarely, unplug them. For more saving tips look below.
Conserve Energy - Electric:
1. Turn off lights when not in use.
2. Turn off all appliances when not in use.
3.Turn off TVs; HD wide screens when not in use.
4. Turn off the radio when not in use. Even when they use batteries.
5. Recommend replacing incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs
6. Keep in mind, home electronics can still be in use when turned off & plugged in.
Energy is being used by hidden PHANTOM LIGHTS on electronics.
Conserve Water:
1. Did you know it is possible to take 5 minutes showers? Try it….
2. Control faucets when washing, brushing, or shaving. NTUA recommends:
Using one to two cups of H2O while brushing your teeth, shaving or washing your face.
3. Wash only full loads of laundry but do not over load your washer.
4. Set your thermostat on your water heater at a normal setting.
(Please review the owner’s manual for your dishwasher and set at the recommended temperature.)
5. Repair leaky faucets & toilet. Its estimated one drop of H2O per second can accumulate to 2,400 gallons a year.
6. Insulate hot water pipes.
7. Water your yard early in the morning. NTUA recommends, collecting rain water to water plants around the house.
8. WATER IS MOSTLY USED AT THE TOILET. Do NOT use toilets as trash cans.
Place a half a gallon water/milk jug filled with water in the toilet water storage tank to use less water to flush your toilet.
Conserve Natural Gas:
1. Electric ignition oven or range will save natural gas. This type of system does not burn pilot continuously.
2. Blue flames indicate your natural gas appliance is in good shape; yellow flames indicate the gas is burning inefficiently.
3. Keep range-top burners and reflectors clean; they will reflect the heat better and you will save energy.
4. Use a covered kettle or pan to boil water; it’s faster and uses less energy.
5. Insulate & fully cover your water heaters to keep water hot.
6. Insulate your hot water pipes so you have hot/warm water when use.
7. To conserve your hot water, install a low-flow shower heads for hot water last longer.
8. Seal & repair your house where you think cold air might enter.
9. Maintain & clean furnace & AC filters to run in good & safe condition.
